NBA Player Grant Williams Visits Shooting Touch
Shooting Touch Board Member makes historic trip to experience Rwanda programming
In July 2024, NBA player and Shooting Touch Board Member Grant Williams joined our co-founders, Lindsey and Justin Kittredge, for an unforgettable trip to Rwanda! In addition to being a longtime supporter of Shooting Touch, Grant is deeply involved in philanthropy and is a strong advocate for youth development and gender equality through his roles as First Vice President of the National Basketball Players Association and founder of the Grant Williams Family Foundation.
For the first time, Grant was able to engage with our sport-for-development programs in rural Rwanda, visiting four Shooting Touch communities and participating in a tremendous basketball-for-health event reaching thousands of youth, women, and their family members.
As part of Grant's experience in Rwanda, Shooting Touch organized an event in partnership with the U.S. Embassy in Kigali to discuss Grant’s journey to the NBA, his passion for helping others, and his commitment to working alongside Shooting Touch to uplift communities in Rwanda. Co-founder Lindsey Kittredge also spoke, sharing Shooting Touch’s impact in the country over the past 12 years and advocating for increased multi-sectoral collaboration to amplify basketball’s role as a platform for social and economic development in Africa. Following the event, Shooting Touch leadership had the opportunity to meet with U.S. Ambassador to Rwanda Eric Kneedler, NBA Africa CEO Claire Akamanzi, the Rwanda Women’s National Basketball Team, and other influential leaders to discuss opportunities to advance shared goals.
Thank you, Grant, for bringing incredible passion, energy, and joy to our programs in Rwanda - we look forward to creating more lasting change together for years to come!
